Leading SEO Agency for Solar Installation Companies
Residential solar is in a hard year, which makes every qualified buyer more valuable.
SEIA and Wood Mackenzie reported 995 MWdc installed in Q2 2026, down 12% year over year, and forecast a 23% contraction for 2026 before about 6% average annual growth from 2027 to 2031. The IRS residential clean energy credit (25D) cannot be claimed for expenditures made after December 31, 2025, so installers are shifting toward leases, PPAs and batteries, where third-party owned systems can still use 48E under its deadlines. EnergySage puts a typical system at about 12 kW and about $31,000 before incentives, and its H1 2026 data showed third-party ownership rising from about 14% to about 41% of quotes, with 76% of shoppers interested in storage.
Trust is the bottleneck. An Aurora Solar survey found 87% of buyers call reputation important, 37% worry about deceptive sales tactics and 65% see door-to-door sales as unprofessional, and by 2024, 44% said it is hard to tell which solar companies are trustworthy, up from 22%. Online reviews were a top factor for 47%. Installers also report longer sales cycles and falling close rates, so the company with clear answers, honest pricing and strong recent reviews wins the shortlist.
DM. Digital builds visibility for solar installers in Google search, the map pack and AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google AI Overviews and AI Mode. We set "Solar energy company" or "Solar energy system service" as your primary category and add maintenance categories only if you offer them. Then we rebuild your site for the post-25D market, with pages for leases, PPAs, batteries, bill savings and net metering, each claim dated and sourced, plus HomeAndConstructionBusiness schema and installer credential pages. Recent reviews that answer trust concerns, Yelp, BBB and Angi listings, weekly Google Business Profile posts and links complete the monthly engagement.
Solar marketing rules have tightened along with the market. The FTC calls "free" or "no cost" solar offers scams and treats false rebate and tax credit promises as red flags, and any page still citing the 30% homeowner credit for new purchases is now inaccurate. The CFPB has flagged ads showing a "net cost" that assumes the tax credit, and found loan dealer fees often add 10% to 30% to the price. In California, the CSLB Solar Energy System Disclosure Document must be on the front of every residential contract, in the language of the sale, and the C-46 Solar license covers PV systems. NABCEP certification belongs to individuals and must show the name and number. DM. Digital audits and rewrites your pages so every claim is current and accurate.
Engagements start at a budget of $5,000 per month. Call (775) 843-8004 and Dan Milstein will run an audit of how your solar company shows up in Google and AI tools today.

How Customers Search for Solar Installation Companies
Solar search demand is smaller and more seasonal than most home services.
Ahrefs estimates yearly averages of about 13,000 to 18,000 US monthly searches for "solar panel cost" between 2022 and 2024, about 9,400 to 17,000 for "solar companies near me" and about 9,300 to 10,000 for "solar panel installation." "Solar companies near me" was usually busiest in July, August and September at about 2 times its slowest month, and "solar panel cost" peaked in April, July and August. Recent demand is distorted by policy: EnergySage saw a 205% year over year rise in homeowners working with installers in July 2025, ahead of the credit deadline.
Research questions dominate. In an Ahrefs check of 6 solar searches in October 2026, a map pack appeared on 4 and AI Overviews appeared on 4, including "solar panel installation," "solar panel cost" and "solar battery storage," while neither "near me" search showed one. WebFX's July 2025 home services study found AI Overviews on 41.1% of queries of 7 or more words and 37.1% of informational ones. Cost, payback, lease versus buy and battery questions are where AI answers appear, so accurate, current pages on those topics carry the most weight.
Installers look for help with this too: Ahrefs (October 2026) puts "solar seo" at about 400 US monthly searches, with "solar marketing" and "seo for solar companies" at about 350 each.
Why Solar Installation Need Us
Common SEO Challenges for Solar Installation Companies
Website copy still selling the expired 30% homeowner credit
The IRS says 25D cannot be claimed for expenditures after December 31, 2025. DM. Digital rewrites your pages around leases, PPAs, batteries and bill savings, with every incentive claim dated and sourced.
Buyers who cannot tell which installers to trust
Aurora Solar found 44% of buyers said it is hard to tell which solar companies are trustworthy, up from 22%. DM. Digital puts credentials, licenses, honest pricing and recent reviews where buyers and AI tools look.
Longer sales cycles and falling close rates
Installers report longer cycles as residential solar contracts in 2026. DM. Digital builds content for each research stage, from cost and payback to lease versus buy, so prospects arrive informed and ready to talk.
Net cost and "free solar" claims that draw regulator attention
The FTC calls "free" solar offers scams, and the CFPB flagged net cost ads that assume the tax credit. DM. Digital writes pricing content that states real costs and financing terms.
Battery and storage demand you are not capturing
EnergySage found 76% of shoppers showed interest in storage, with a 31% attachment rate. DM. Digital builds battery and storage pages that rank for searches like "solar battery storage."

Show Up in AI Search for Solar Installation Companies
Solar is a research-heavy purchase, so AI answers shape the shortlist before a homeowner ever calls.
No published study breaks out AI citations for solar, and solar directories such as EnergySage and SolarReviews were not measured, but BrightLocal's August 2026 study found Google Business Profile was the most cited source overall at 28.63% of citations, with Yelp second at 9.53%, and ChatGPT leaning on Yelp, BBB and Angi. For service businesses, google.com took 45% of citations.
The bigger AI risk for installers is accuracy. Many solar sites still describe the 30% homeowner credit, which no longer applies to new purchases, and AI tools that cite those pages pass the error along. Clear, dated content on leases, PPAs, batteries and net metering gives AI tools current facts to quote and gives buyers a reason to trust you.
DM. Digital builds AI visibility for solar installers through accurate content, a complete Google Business Profile, consistent Yelp, BBB and Angi profiles and recent reviews, and tracks your AI mentions alongside leads and traffic in monthly reports.

Solar Installation SEO Agency FAQs
Not for new purchases. The IRS says the residential clean energy credit (25D) cannot be claimed for expenditures made after December 31, 2025, and an expenditure counts as made when installation is completed. Third-party owned systems such as leases and PPAs can still use 48E if construction begins by July 4, 2026 or the system is placed in service by the end of 2027.
Shift to what buyers still want. EnergySage's H1 2026 data showed third-party ownership rising to about 41% of quotes and 76% of shoppers interested in storage, while 70% of contractors said customers buy to save money. Lease, PPA, battery and bill-savings content now matters more than tax credit messaging.
They draw on profiles and websites, though no solar-specific study exists. BrightLocal's August 2026 data shows Google Business Profile is the most cited source overall and ChatGPT leans on Yelp, BBB and Angi. DM. Digital strengthens those profiles, publishes accurate content and tracks your AI mentions, without promising placement in AI answers.
The CSLB Solar Energy System Disclosure Document must be on the front of every residential solar contract, in the language the sale was made in (AB 1070). The C-46 Solar license covers solar thermal and PV systems. Other states have their own rules.
NABCEP certification belongs to individuals, and claims must show the certified person's name and number. Companies can hold a separate accreditation. Company-level NABCEP claims are a common mistake on installer websites.
It is an option. Google Local Services Ads include a "Solar energy contractor" category covering installation, repair and monitoring, with background checks for select users, insurance and licenses where local law requires them. No credible solar-specific cost per lead benchmark exists, so track your own results closely.
